Brakey is a Mexican-born feline of uncertain parentage, questionable intentions, and considerable self-confidence. His exact birthplace is unknown, although he has never shown the slightest concern about the absence of documentation.

A master hunter, Brakey has built a formidable reputation among the rodent population of Mesoamerica. Mice fear him. Lizards avoid him. Small unidentified creatures have been known to reconsider their evening plans after learning he is nearby.

He is known in the mice community as “El Gato Diablo.”

His professional qualifications include stealth, surveillance, nighttime operations, unauthorized tent entry, and the rapid neutralization of anything small enough to chase. He works independently, accepts no supervision, and has never attended a meeting he considered important.

Despite his lethal reputation, Brakey has a softer side. When not killing something, stalking something, or contemplating killing something, he can be remarkably affectionate. He has been known to curl up beside humans, demand attention, and behave as though he has never harmed another living creature.

Brakey's loyalties are entirely his own. He does not officially work for MARI, has never received a salary, and recognizes no organizational hierarchy.
